Rising lo-fi artist How to Dress Well’s debut 7″, “Ready For the World“, comes out today via Lefse. The title tune’s backed by a Twin Sister remix on its B-side, but this rework by Jacob Haage of Swedish balearic prog duo BANDJO (whose debut just dropped last month) didn’t make the final cut for the release. Not to mention former shoegaze pioneer and generally awesome chap Neil Halstead of Slowdive fame will be headlining. It’s going to be an incredible night for sure.

We’ve picked three of the most exciting bands we could lay our greasy little mits on and plonked them on an equal footing bill; no headliners, just one triple threat.

You won’t be disappointed either. First up are the sumptuously sexy and effortlessly stylish boy/girl duo ELEPHANT who are followed by the slightly less sexy but by no means less talented A SCHOLAR & A PHYSICIAN. Signed to Brainlove – the official home for all that is off-kilter in the world of pop. Expect stadium sized hooks and more observational lyrics than you can shake a stick at. Closing the night are FANZINE. Proud to be a part of the early-nineties revival that we’re totally digging right now, their heavily blogged-about debut offering ‘Susan’ is one of the best things we’ve heard all year and by the looks of it, there’s no sign of them easing off on the quality control. Expect them to blow the roof off The Social with their blissful guitar hooks and bittersweet melodies. Exciting times.

Our number 1 NYC bros Common Prayer are heading over for a brief tour next month including an appearance at Truck Festival and London’s Garage.

Common Prayer is the new project from Jason Sebastian Russo of Mercury Rev acclaim. Along with partner Alexandra Marvar and live cohorts John Anderson and Karen Codd, they collectively bring the album’s jangly off-kilter pop songs to life. Audiences in the UK will be joyed to hear that the band will be playing the following dates this summer:

Our beloved Treecreeper have announced details of their album launch party, which is to be held at The Social, London (home to our l-e-g-e-n-d-a-r-y club nights).

It’s taking place on Tuesday 22 June, with support from The Treetop Flyers. What’s more, ROUGHDAD (Rough Trade + Dadrock DJ’s = Roughdad) will be DJing until the early hours. Free entry too. What’s stopping you? Say YES over on Facebook now.

The new Treecreeper is called Juniper and drops on June 21. Pre-order it now via Rough Trade for it is, my friends, a work of sheer majesty.

Some sad news over the weekend, NME Radio – a station that has supported what we do here at Ill Fit right from the very beginning is being closed down, and to be replaced with a streaming only internet service. Full story via The Guardian:

IPC Media has pulled the plug on digital radio station NME Radio, reducing it to an online service without any coverage on either digital TV or radio.

The company said today it was terminating its agreement with DX Media, which has run the weekly music magazine spin-off since its launch in 2008.

NME Radio went nationwide on digital audio broadcasting (DAB) radio at the end of last year and also broadcast via Sky Digital, Virgin Media, and Freesat.

The station had an average weekly reach of 226,000 listeners in the first quarter of 2010, and just two months ago announced the signing of former Xfm DJ Alex Zane. It launched with a show presented by Ricky Gervais.

It is not known how many jobs will be affected by the decision, which takes place with immediate effect.

NME publishing director Paul Cheal says: “We have enjoyed a great working relationship with DX Media and we would like to thank them for all the excellent work that has gone into NME Radio.

“Meanwhile, we will continue to develop ways in which NME’s audience can engage with both audio and content utilising our in-house studio facilities whilst maintaining an online music service via our award-winning music website nme.com.”

Sad news for all involved in the station, perhaps most importantly Jon Hillcock who went out of his way each week to push and promote some of the best new music around at the moment – If he liked it, he played it – it was really that simple. An early supporter of Ill Fit act The Forest & The Trees, we owe Hillcock a hell of a lot.

Constant purveyors of good-taste, the Swedish fashion magazine Rodeo feature a brand new Bandjo mix-tape. Full track-list can be found over on Rodeo, but artists included are Dungen, Can and Hawklords. Don’t miss it!
